Pick of the Week
This Satirical Thriller
Coralie Fargeat's unflinching critique tackles the oppressive nature of feminine aesthetics and the perceived horrors of growing older. This Supernatural Story
The acclaimed director challenges his film-making abilities in this clever supernatural story filmed completely from the perspective of a ghost. After a clan including mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe moves into their new suburban house, the camera – AKA the Presence – follows them around. The daughter appears conscious of the ghostly being, and it seems guarding her. However, the motive remains? It's a fun idea that avoids overstaying, with a twist that could catch you off guard. This Saturday, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere

This Creepy Thriller
The director's claustrophobic thriller holds up well without requiring a sequel. Set in 1970s Colorado, multiple disappearances has made the youth anxious. When Finney is kidnapped by the villain and locked up in a cellar, he anticipates a fatal end. Yet the old telephone mounted nearby continues to ring, with ghostly voices providing assistance, and the prescient dreams from his sibling Gwen might rescue him. A genuinely scary movie. October 11th, late evening, on Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between spirituality and money, the winner is obvious for Mammon in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation about the fallen TV preacher and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who states early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple begin monetising the American public's religious faith. It's a spectacle of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and hypocrisy, however Jessica Chastain succeeds to depict the character with compassion. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, on Film4
